Embark on an unforgettable motorcycle adventure through the roads of Laos, discovering the mythical Mekong River and the most remote regions of the country. Starting from Vientiane, you’ll cross the wild mountains of Xaisomboun, the historic landscapes of the Plain of Jars in Phonsavanh, and the deep forests of Muang Hiam, on the edge of the Nam Et–Phou Louey National Protected Area. You’ll then reach Muang Ngoi and Nong Khiaw, nestled along the Nam Ou River, before following the winding valleys that lead to the Mekong. The sacred river, a guiding thread of your journey, accompanies you all the way to Luang Prabang, the royal city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As you head back south, you’ll ride along the banks of the Mekong to Sayaboury, the land of elephants, then cross the karst landscapes of Vang Vieng before returning to Vientiane. This motorcycle tour combines spectacular roads, traditional villages, cultural immersion, and exceptional riverside scenery. From the northern mountains to the fertile plains along the Mekong, this journey is an invitation to explore the soul of Laos, close to its people and its legendary river.
After a safety briefing and the handover of your Royal Enfield, set off to discover the city: the Buddha Park statue, Patuxai (the local Arc de Triomphe), and the banks of the Mekong at sunset. Enjoy a traditional Laotian dinner to immerse yourself in the local culture.
Early departure on secondary roads leading to the central mountains of Laos. Along the way, pass through rural villages and landscapes of forests and deep valleys. Arrival in Xaisomboun, a little-explored region rich in Hmong culture. Check-in at your accommodation and take a walk in the late afternoon to enjoy the grand panoramic views.
Today’s ride takes you through the high plateaus of central Laos to Phonsavanh, the capital of Xieng Khouang province. This region was heavily bombed during the Secret War. Visit the mysterious Plain of Jars, a unique archaeological site and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Check-in at the hotel and free evening.
A short but enriching stage. Leave Phonsavanh to reach Muang Kham via roads lined with ethnic villages and agricultural scenery. Optional visit to the Tham Piew hot springs and a memorial commemorating a tragic wartime event. Arrival in Muang Kham and traditional dinner.
Head east on an isolated mountain road bordered by deep forests and remote hamlets. Arrival in Muang Hiam, a quiet town located on the edge of the Nam Et–Phou Louey National Protected Area—one of the most biodiverse zones in Laos. Check-in at your accommodation. Optional: visit the reserve’s information center and learn about wildlife conservation efforts (tigers, leopards, civets…).
Today, ride along wild and spectacular roads toward Muang Ngoi, a village only accessible by boat from Nong Khiaw. Leave your motorcycles in Nong Khiaw and take a short boat ride on the Nam Ou River. Arrive in Muang Ngoi, a timeless place surrounded by karst mountains and accessible only by water. Stay in a riverside bungalow.
Morning boat ride back to Nong Khiaw. After recovering your motorcycles, enjoy a short ride to your accommodation. Free day to explore the surroundings: hike to the Pha Daeng viewpoint, visit local caves, or go kayaking on the Nam Ou River. A spectacular sunset is guaranteed from the bridge or a terrace of a local restaurant.
Departure on a scenic road through mountains and rivers toward Luang Prabang, the former royal capital and UNESCO World Heritage gem. Optional stops in artisanal villages along the way. Arrival in Luang Prabang and check-in at the hotel. Free time to explore the city and its vibrant night market.
Free day to enjoy Luang Prabang at your own pace. Suggestions: sunrise to witness the alms-giving ceremony, visit Wat Xieng Thong, the Royal Palace, and local craft workshops. Optional excursion to the stunning Kuang Si waterfalls and swimming in their turquoise pools. Dinner at your leisure in a riverside restaurant along the Mekong.
Ride west toward Sayaboury, a little-visited province offering an authentic glimpse into rural life. A must-see stop at the Elephant Conservation Center, where you’ll learn about the rehabilitation of domestic elephants in a semi-wild environment. Check-in at your nature-based accommodation.
A long but beautiful stage through mountains and cultivated valleys. Reach Vang Vieng, a town nestled between karst cliffs and rivers. It’s an adventurer’s paradise: kayaking, caving, hot air ballooning, or swimming in natural lagoons. Free evening in this lively riverside village along the Nam Song.
Final riding day. Head south toward Vientiane through rolling landscapes and agricultural villages. Upon arrival in the capital, return the motorcycles. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant featuring local specialties such as laap, mok pa, or Laotian khao soi.
Free time depending on your flight schedule. Transfer to the airport. You leave Laos with unforgettable images and experiences, rich in discovery and adventure.
